Boss hopes he can keep dynamic duo
Steve Bruce reckons Antonio Valencia is good enough to play for Manchester United – and has revealed the trauma he faced when he moved to Old Trafford 21 years ago.
Sir Alex Ferguson watched him at the JJB against Bolton and his number two Carlos Quieroz took in the game at home to Birmingham.
Wilson Palacios was also in action at the JJB and the pair will be hot property this summer.
Liverpool and Everton are also in the hunt. Bruce won't stand in their way – if the price is right.
The Latics boss moved to United in 1987 from Norwich for 800,000 – even though the Canaries played hard ball.
Bruce told the Observer: "I know for a fact that when I was leaving Norwich for Man United they were trying to deny me the chance to go there – that was serious trouble.
"Valencia is only 22. He's got an exceptional future. I believe he's a top player who will play at the very highest level – I've got no doubt.
"We'll see if they're prepared to put their money where their mouth is.
"I don't want to lose players like him and Palacios. But I'm a realist. They will have to be big clubs because they will be the only ones who can afford him."
