Bramble: We are Red-dy
Titus Bramble believes Monday's clash with Liverpool will present Latics with the perfect opportunity to arrest their alarming Premier League run.
Wigan have gone nine matches without a win and have only won once in the league – at Wolves in January – since the end of November.
Not many teams would hand-pick Liverpool as perfect opposition given the circumstances.
But Bramble feels the big-match atmosphere might help kickstart Wigan out of their slump.
He told the Evening Post: "The Liverpool game is a massive game for us, and we have to pick ourselves up and make sure we're ready for it.
"We have some fantastic players in the squad and it's just a case of working hard and putting some results together."
Latics will also be aided in the run-in by the laying of a new playing surface at the DW Stadium, which will hopefully have had time to knit in by next Monday.
And the Wigan centre-back admits he will not be sorry to see the back of the old surface that made his life a misery for the past few weeks.
He continued: "The old pitch was doing no one any good.
"It might have looked bad from the sidelines, but I promise you it was much worse to play on – absolutely terrible.
"You know the ball is going to bounce up but you don't know how or when, so you can't really do anything about it.
"The new pitch should help, and will hopefully suit our passing game."
Wigan could do with a change in fortunes as well as pitch, after being on the wrong end of a string of baffling decisions of late.
Most recently, they went down to a hotly-disputed penalty at Birmingham on Saturday, and Bramble feels they are due a change in luck.
"They say it's swings and roundabouts, so hopefully we'll get some luck very soon," he added.
"The referee on Saturday was new to the Premier League and was possibly
looking to make a statement.
"But, in this league, you can't have a referee like that.
"I'm sure we won't get relegated, but it's still costing us points. It's not good.
"The lack of consistency is also still there and it's so
frustrating, as in the second half we did really well after not being at it in the first half.
"It took us 45 minutes to get going again, and we have to start doing that from the start.
"It's a real dogfight at the bottom of the league, and we need to compete for 90 minutes and not 45.
"If we can do that, there won't be a problem."
