Bullard in line for Wigan return?
Jimmy Bullard may make a sensational return to Wigan Athletic.
Steve Bruce wants the former fans' favourite back to the JJB two years after he left to join Fulham for 2.5m.
The 29-year-old revealed he's now in new contract negotiations at Craven Cottage, but hasn't ruled out the possibility of returning north.
Bullard, who has two years to run on his deal, told the Observer: "It's nice to hear that Wigan would want me back – it shows I'm well thought of. But it's the first I've heard of it. Wigan is a great club and have got a great manager.
"But my gaffer (Roy Hodgson) hasn't said anything to me about it.
"I got a call from a mate when I was on our tour of Korea saying there was something in the papers about me coming back to Wigan, but I know nothing about it.
"I'm in talks at the moment about a new contract. I've got two years to run on my deal and we just thought it was the right time to try and sit down and get a new one sorted.
"Hopefully it will all be sorted out soon."
Bruce could make a move for Bullard if he fails to agree terms on a new contract.
He currently has new signing Lee Cattermole, Wilson Palacios and Michael Brown at his disposal – after a move for Hendry Thomas broke down over his work permit.
Asked if a move back to the North West would appeal to him, Bullard replied: "Not yet – but you can never say never."
Bullard joined Latics from Peterborough in January 2003 for 275,000, going on to make 157 appearances and featuring in two promotion campaigns.
He holds the club's consecutive league record. The midfielder clocked up 123 matches in a row for Latics in the league from his first game on February 1, 2003 against Cheltenham to his last against Liverpool on December 3, 2005.
Bullard surpassed Colin Methven's club record of 117 consecutive league games.
But then he saw his run in the side come to an end on December 10 at Stamford Bridge.
He joined Fulham on a four-year deal at the end of Wigan's first season in the top-flight when they exorcised a release clause in his contract.
"I like it at Fulham and I'm settled at the club," Bullard said.
"My family is settled here. This is home for me.
"My little boy Archie is 18 months old now – the time has flown by for us. We're close to my family which is why I chose to leave Wigan.
"I had four great years at the club.
"But the time was right for me to leave a couple of years ago when I had the chance to come back down to London."
