FRANCO di Santo believes Wigan Athletic have good reason to feel short-changed by the Premier League table.

Latics currently sit in 15th spot with five points from their seven matches, just two points above the drop zone.

That’s despite Roberto Martinez’s men having played some stylish football in the opening couple of months, and deserving something out of most of the games.

Both of the home draws, against Stoke and Everton, could easily have been three points, as could the defeat at Sunderland, while they played well enough for most of the home defeats to Fulham and Chelsea only to come away empty-handed.

“I definitely feel we have deserved more than we have got so far this season,” Di Santo told the Evening Post.

“Against Stoke we should have won, and against Everton last weekend it was the same.

“If you add four points to our tally, it would probably put us in the top half of the table.

“And I think that would be a far more accurate reflection of where we are at the moment.”

The frustrating thing is that it’s been such small margins standing between Latics and a more realistic points tally.

And that’s something that gives Di Santo – who has three goals so far – plenty of hope for the rest of the campaign.

“It’s nothing major that we have to correct,” he said.

“We just have to concentrate more in the last quarter of matches – particularly in the last five minutes – because that has cost us already this season.

“We have played well for most of the season and we have been a little unlucky in some parts of the games.

“But it’s nothing to worry about because it’s something that can be easily fixed.

“Everyone here still believes in each other 100 % and I am convinced we are on the right lines.”
