Gomez deal done
Jordi Gomez has completed the formalities of his medical to become Roberto Martinez's first signing as Wigan Athletic manager.
The highly-coveted 24-year-old spent last season on loan with Martinez at Swansea City, and proved to be a major success in south Wales.
Gomez was voted by his fellow professionals into the Championship PFA Team of the Year after scoring 12 goals in 41 league appearances for the Swans.
As revealed in Friday's Evening Post, Gomez made a fleeting visit to Wigan to pass his medical and put pen to paper on a three-year-contract for a fee of around 1.7million.
Martinez revealed several Premier League clubs, as well as clubs on the continent, have been chasing Gomez, who served his apprenticeship at his local club Barcelona before moving across the city to Espanyol.
And the new boy admitted he was determined to hit the ground running at the DW Stadium.
"I just want to thank the club and Roberto for having faith in me and I can't wait to get started in July," he said.
"I had a good relationship with the supporters at Swansea, and I hope the Wigan fans will see a player who gives everything, every time he puts on the shirt."
