David Jones is aiming to shoot down Manchester City

LATICS won’t be afraid tonight despite the prospect of taking on Manchester City’s Premier League table-topping multi-millionaires at the DW Stadium.

Few outsiders will fancy Latics – who are now without a win in their last six games – but for wide-man David Jones, tonight presents a great opportunity to once again go toe-to-toe with one of Europe’s big guns.

Jones, who has now notched up 15 appearances this season, said: “It will be one of our toughest games of the season of course, and with each game comes different difficulties.

“But we’ve shown on a number of occasions this season that at home against the so-called top teams we can produce a performance and get the result.

“That’s what we’re after with this gme.

“The big thing with Manchester City is the fear factor for a lot of teams up against them.

“Just looking at their team sheet and their squad, and the amount of money they’ve spent, that can be a factor.

“But if we go into the game with that belief that we can compete with anyone football-wise then we can impose our game on City. We can live with them, that’s been proved in recent seasons, but we do need to get back to winning ways.

“After last weekend at Swindon we need to be stamping our authority on this game, and get back to the kind of result we were picking up around a month or so ago.”

Momo Diame misses the game because of his involvement in the Africa Nations Cup but the midfielder aside, Roberto Martinez has a full squad to select from.

He hinted that youngster Callum McManaman may play some role.
