“I’d like to think I couldn’t really have done much more to get in there,” he told the Evening Post.

“I came into the training camp full of confidence and fully fit, and fingers crossed I’ve done enough.

“At the end of the day it’s the gaffer’s decision, but it’s something I’d like to be part of.”

With 20 goals in his last 21 games at club level, Grigg is in the form of his life at the perfect time.

“I probably am, I think you’d have to say that,” he acknowledged.

“I’ve been scoring goals, playing well, helping Wigan, and that’s always good. On a personal note, I’m very happy – I didn’t really want the season to end.

“And hopeful it’s not ended for me, with the Euros coming later this summer and I’m desperate to be involved.”
