The Wigan Athletic hotshot made the cut for Northern Ireland’s 23-man squad, which was named 24 hours after his maiden international goal against Belarus on Friday night.

“It means everything,” acknowledged Grigg. “I’ve been in this squad since Under-17s and come through the ranks.

“I’ve been part of the tough times as well, so to be part of the Euros will be something special. Hopefully we can get some more goals over there.”

The 24-year-old couldn’t be in better form heading into the finals, having notched 20 goals in the last 21 games of the season as Latics lifted the League One title.

“Over the past six months I’ve come on massively as a player,” he recognised.

“I’ve found my form and it’s not just my goals – it’s my all-round play. I’ve bulked up a bit, and that’s something I’ll definitely need at a higher level. But I’m ready for that.”
