Latics have been forced to wait an extra few days to mathematically confirm promotion back to the Championship, with Walsall beating Shrewsbury last night.

A point at Blackpool this weekend would end Walsall’s hopes of overhauling them, while three points would all-but secure the League One title, with Burton’s goal difference being so inferior.

And Jacobs says the roles played by the elder statesmen in the squad cannot be underestimated.

“You look at the experience in the squad – like Craig Morgan, Stephen Warnock, Jussi Jaaskelainen – and we’ve got players who have been in this situation before,” Jacobs said.

“They’ve been able to guide through the players who haven’t been there before.

“It’s a massive benefit for us to have within the squad the players we have, and it’s allowed us to go into the last few games confident of getting over the line.”
