SHAUN Maloney is hoping a New Year will bring about a change of luck for Wigan.
Latics have been doing it tough of late, with boss Roberto Martinez having to contend with an injury crisis that has robbed him of nearly a full team.
Thankfully the situation is showing signs of abating, with the likes of Gary Caldwell and Ivan Ramis now back to full fitness and Antolin Alcaraz nearing a welcome return.
And Maloney is keeping his fingers crossed Latics have used up all of their bad fortune for the campaign.
“When you’ve been involved in football for a while you do see things like this, and there’s nothing you can do about it,” he told the Observer.
“It’s just bad luck, and all you can do is take the long-term view that they will be back soon and you just need to make sure it doesn’t disrupt you too much.
“We’ve got some big games coming up – but every game in can be called a big game.
“We have to have the desire to try and compete in every game and fight our way out.”
