This time last year Latics were tumbling out of the Championship, the pre-season favourites for promotion having endured a car-crash campaign that inexplicably ended in the dreaded drop.

“It’s nice at the moment,” McCann acknowledged.

“The gaffer tried to stamp his style on what he wanted to do, he had his own ideas from previous managers being here.

“He came here and set his stall out on how he wanted to win the league, and how he wanted us to play.

“We’ve played some lovely football this season, and it’s nice to play in a team that’s playing well.

“We have a lot of creative players and, when you have good attacking players putting them away as well, it’s a great team to play in.”
