It was a tough afternoon for Latics who struggled to break down their resilient visitors.

Ryan Colclough and Yanic Wildschut were constant threats throughout but every attack seemed to fade away with little being put to City goalkeeper Ben Williams.

Just as it looked like Wigan were going to have to settle for a fourth draw on the bounce though, up popped Vuckic to fire home the winner with nine minutes to go.

It was a special moment for the Slovenian, who dedicated the goal to his new daughter Hana, born at Wigan Infirmary last Friday.

With Walsall also sealing a late victory, it was a huge three points for Wigan who remain second on goal difference.

The first half had been a very even affair with Latics mounting pressure via a string of corners.

Wildschut came closest when he struck the post from distance before Colclough cut inside down the right flank and fired a shot which Williams held onto well.

A few minutes later and Wildschut did have the ball in the back of the net but it was correctly ruled out for offside.

Bradford’s best chances came after the break but none really tested Jussi Jaaskelainen with Kyel Reid proving to be dangerous down the left.

City threw in a number of touch challenges as the game began to heat up.

Gary Caldwell changed things with the introduction of Vuckic and Craig Davies while Donervon Daniels came off with a knock and was replaced by Leon Barnett.

Wigan still struggled to break down their opposition until their moment came.

Vuckic darted into the box and stroked the ball home from a tight angle, sending Wigan into Easter in the top two.
