Lifeline for Camara

Steve Bruce will sit down with Henri Camara in the next few days and ask him whether he wants to stay at Wigan.

The Latics boss is prepared to throw the Senegal international a career lifeline – if he is determined to work hard for the team.

Camara spent last season on loan at West Ham after falling-out-of-favour in the previous campaign under Paul Jewell.

But he struggled to cement a first-team place at the Hammers, making just 10 appearances.

He returned to Christopher Park last week for pre-season training and Bruce admits he wasn't aware his exit from Latics was for a season-long loan.

The manager plans to speak to Camara – a 3m recruit by Jewell for Latics' first season in the Premier League – before deciding whether he has a future at the club.

He said: "I didn't know he was coming back. I thought he had gone.

"He's come back and been part of the squad and I'll sit down with him in the next few weeks and see what his plans are and if he can fit in here."

Although Camara has struggled to settle, Bruce believes his side may benefit from the goal-threat the lively striker possesses.

He added: "I know one thing, in his first year at Wigan he finished with, what, 12 goals? All in the league? He's got something."
