Moses denies Pearce rift
Victor Moses has slammed reports of a bust-up with Stuart Pearce – and insists he remains happy to represent the England U21 side.
Nigerian-born Moses has represented England at U16, U17 and U19 level, and received his first call-up to the U21 set-up for last week's clash against Greece.
After failing to make the matchday squad, however, there were claims Moses had fallen out with head coach Pearce and switched his international allegiance to Nigeria ahead of this summer's World Cup finals.
However, the 19-year-old has rubbished the idea, and wants to set the record straight.
Moses told the Evening Post: "I don't know where some people get their
stories from, but that was just rubbish.
"I didn't actually see the paper, but my agent called me up and told me what was written. And it really frustrates me when I read stuff about me that is blatantly not true. Because the truth is I didn't say any of it. And I don't know where it has come from either.
"I didn't play for the England Under-21s, but I have not fallen out with Stuart or anyone else.
"And if I were to be called up again, I would be happy to report again. There's no problem whatsoever."
Moses remains eligible to play for both England and Nigeria until he makes a full appearance for either nation, but the England U21 call-up looked to close the door on him representing his homeland.
The player, though, says he is far too focused on helping Wigan remain in the Premier League for a sixth successive year to spend time worrying about the off-field battle for his allegiance.
He added: "To be honest, I'm not even thinking about the international side of things.
"Whatever people are saying about me playing for England or Nigeria, all the stories that are going around, it's not really any of their business.
"I just want to play my football, play well for Wigan and stay focused on that.
"That's the most important thing for me. They are my priority, and whatever happens after that, we'll see.
"But I'm really not thinking about those kind of things at the moment."
Moses was born in Kaduna, in the north of Nigeria, but moved to England at the age of 11 after both of his parents were murdered.
After coming through the ranks at Crystal Palace, he established himself as one of the brightest young talents in the country before joining Latics in January for 2.5m.
His substitute appearance against Liverpool on Monday night was his fifth for Latics, and the winger says he could not be happier with the
welcome he has received.
"Everyone has really looked after me since I've been here," he admitted.
"The club is like one big family and that has helped me settle in.
"I'm really enjoying myself and just happy to be here."
