Mustoe wants regular latics place

JORDAN Mustoe has set his sights on regular first-team football after making the most of his first senior start for Wigan Athletic.

The performance of Mustoe – along with fellow youngster Callum McManaman - was one of the few positives Roberto Martinez would have gained from the dismal FA Cup third-round defeat at Swindon at the weekend.

And the highly-rated left-back admits the result at the County Ground has not put him off wanting to come back for more.

“I enjoyed it, I was made up to get my first start, although obviously I wasn’t too happy with the result,” Mustoe told the Evening Post.

“I only found out a few hours before the game that I’d be starting.

“I had a good idea that might the case with the way training had gone this week, so I was prepared for it.

“Hopefully I’ve done well enough to show the gaffer I’m worthy of being involved at this level.”

Martinez should now be looking to play these youngsters like McManaman, Mustoe and others as there are plenty of places up for grabs after the way the team have performed from Old Trafford onwards. There should be a few new faces coming in this month with a few leaving after failing to maintain their form of pre-Christmas.
