Franco di Santo celebrates his goal

A STIRRING second-half comeback saw Latics come back from two goals down to pick up a valuable point in their fight against the drop.

Latics had been second best for much of the first period, and could have had no complaints at trailing to Ryan Shawcross’ close-range volley.

It went from bad to worse within moments of the restart when Peter Crouch followed up to side-foot home after Ali Al Habsi had saved from Charlie Adam.

But Latics showed they are made of stern stuff with a fabulous response, sparked by James McArthur’s fantastic goal on 50 minutes.

And the visitors were level on the hour mark when McArthur headed into the path of Franco di Santo, whose finish was deadly from close range.

The point takes Latics out of the bottom three ahead of their crucial clash with fellow strugglers Southampton at the DW on Saturday.
