Super Seven in action for Latics
THIS weekend’s international games will see no less than seven of Latics’ stars in action for their country, whether friendly or competitive fixtures.
Defender Antolin Alcaraz will be hoping that his Paraguay team can replicate their success in this summer’s World Cup when they face Japan tomorrow and China on Tuesday in their international friendly matches.
Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi also has a friendly game on Tuesday, when his Oman team will play Qatar in Doha, while Maynor Figueroa’s Honduras will also be following on from their summer campaign with friendly clashes against El Salvador tomorrow and Canada on Tuesday.
Last weekend’s White Hart Lane match-winner Hugo Rodallega will join up with his international colleagues when his Colombia team play two away games against Venezuela tonight and Mexico on Tuesday.
Both the Ivory Coast and France have continental qualifiers this week, with Steve Gohouri’s Ivory Coast team travelling to Abidjan to face Rwanda tomorrow and Charles N’Zogbia’s France in action twice, playing Belarus tonight (live on ESPN at 8pm) and Bosnia on Tuesday.
Last but certainly not least, James McCarthy’s Republic of Ireland will take on Switzerland tonight and Turkey on Tuesday in the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Blackpool have announced the signing of Ghana and former Latics goalkeeper Richard Kingson on a free transfer.
Seasiders boss Ian Holloway has now drafted in a whole new side since promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in May.
Matt Gilks has been playing in goal for Blackpool with Paul Rachubka out injured, so Holloway needed cover as he looks to defy the odds and keep his side up.
Thirty-two-year-old Kingson, who starred in Ghana’s epic run to the quarter-finals at South Africa in June, was released by Latics at the end of last season after two unsuccessful years at the DW Stadium.
