Kone (left) and Di Santo - Wigan's new deadly duo

EMMERSON Boyce feels Wigan Athletic may have unearthed another deadly strike duo in the form of Franco di Santo and Arouna Kone.

Both forwards netted in Saturday’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Everton, meaning they each have three goals from the opening seven games.

It was also the second time both have found the net in the same game – after the 2-0 victory at Southampton back in August.

Indeed, two of Di Santo’s three goals have been tidy finishes on the back of commanding play from the right-hand side by his partner in crime.

And defender Emmerson Boyce is hoping this is just the beginning.

“Goalscorers are worth their weight in gold, and they have really proved their worth this season,” Boyce told the Observer.

“That’s two games now out of seven where they have both scored, and that obviously shows what a good understanding they have going.

“They both have great potential and they both know where the goal is. They’re taking their chances at the moment and that can only bode well for the team.

“It’s always a good sign when both of your strikers score. That’s what the manager wanted and they’ve done that for him.

“It’s up to the rest of us now to chip in and help out where we can, and it can still be a good season for us.”
