When will Mac be back?
Latics face an anxious wait to discover the full extent of the hamstring injury that forced James McCarthy out of last night's disappointing draw with Stoke.
The Scot was again in top form as Latics dominated the opening half and
deservedly led through Paul Scharner's early header.
However, after McCarthy limped off on 55 minutes, the tide turned horribly in favour of the Potters, who equalised through Tuncay and had a couple of golden chances to sneak it at the death.
Martinez felt the departure of McCarthy was crucial to the shift in power, and is keeping his fingers crossed the specialist's verdict is not too serious.
He told the Evening Post: "We can be very pleased with the way we controlled the ball in the first half and got ourselves a deserved lead.
"We expected Stoke to come out in the second half and put us under a lot of pressure, but a few things didn't go our way.
"Young James damaged his hamstring, and we couldn't get hold of the ball after he went off to take the sting out of the game.
"We are just hoping we took him off at the right time and that it won't turn out to be as bad as it could have been.
"He will have a scan today and we'll discover the full extent of the problem then."
In the end, Latics were indebted to goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, who made a stunning last-gasp stop to deny James Beattie a winning goal, with Mamady Sidibe also hitting the crossbar in a frantic finale.
"Stoke threw everything at us at the end and had lots of momentum, but to see Chris pull off that save at the end shows he is back to his best," Martinez said.
"I am very frustrated, but I am also very, very pleased with many aspects.
