Wigan’s Figueroa appeal thrown out

Wigan's Adrian Lopez is in line to face QPR

Wigan's Adrian Lopez is in line to face QPR

ADRIAN LOPEZ looks a certain starter alongside the dependable Emmerson Boyce after Maynor Figueroa’s appeal against a one-match ban for his sending-off at Newcastle on Monday was thrown out.

Skipper Gary Caldwell will also miss the visit of Rangers through suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the season at St James’ Park.

And Latics will also be without Ivan Ramis and Antolin Alcaraz, who are on the long-term injury list.

The FA backed referee Mike Jones’ initial decision, and the one-match ban stands.

“We are disappointed, clearly, because we felt we put forward an excellent case,” admitted Martinez.

“But we will draw a line under the incident and continue our preparations for Saturday.”
