Zak to the future

Amr Zaki has issued a sensational 'come and get me' plea to Roberto Martinez after admitting he would love to extend his career at Latics.

In his first full interview since the end of last

season, the Egyptian striker opened his heart to the Observer and revealed he is not yet ready to call time on his love affair with Wigan.

"I really wanted to stay with Latics – and I still do," Zaki exclusively told the Observer.

Zaki took the Premier League by storm during the first half of last season, topping the goalscoring charts and attracting the attentions of

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool among others.

However, a poor second half to the campaign – and several bust-ups with Steve Bruce over his poor time-keeping – led to Latics not taking up the option to extend his season-long loan spell from Zamalek.

The Egyptian is now considering his next move, with offers from Panathinaikos, Lyon, Marseille and Blackburn on the table.

And while his chances of returning to Wigan seem remote, he said he would love to work with new manager Martinez.

He revealed: "I hear Martinez is a very talented coach who is still young and close to the players' age, which will help him get the best out of them. But this depends on the Latics board, who should make an official offer for Zamalek to sign me.

"Without a doubt, Wigan was a great experience for me, and I enjoyed every second of the time I spent with Latics in the Premier League."
