Injury worries after home win

Injuries to two key players took the shine off Wigan's storming 40-12 victory last night.

Captain Sean O'Loughlin and hooker Mike McIlorum both suffered knee injuries and will be assessed over the weekend.

"I don't know how bad it is yet," said skipper O'Loughlin, who was outstanding in the opening half before pulling up lame early into the second half.

Thomas Leuluai scored two of Wigan's eight tries in a victory that lifted Wigan to seventh in the table, although they will fall back to eighth if Warrington beat Celtic Crusaders on Saturday night.

Coach Brian Noble said: "I thought it was a good show all round.

"I thought in the last 10 minutes we looked a bit sloppy but that's credit to Harlequins, that's a reflection of their coach who made sure they kept going.

"I thought we started well, our kicking game was good and our go forward play was pretty good. The game was probably out of reach for them at half-time."

Noble praised Leuluai and Phil Bailey for their "super" performances but added: "It may have been a relatively expensive night at the office for us (following O'Loughlin's and McIlorum's injuries) even though it's two points."

Harlequins were reduced to 12-men after half-an-hour when David Howell was sent off for a high tackle on Sam Tomkins. The Wigan stand-off didn't finish the game – he was sin-binned for dissent.

The crowd of 14,977 was a record home crowd for games against Harlequins/London Broncos.

Chairman Ian Lenagan added: "It was a good performance and it was nice to get the win at home. Our fans were terrific and it was nice to reward them."

In the half-time junior match, Leyland Warriors player Lewis Warburton was stretchered off after suffering a suspected fractured arm.
