No excuses from Wane

It was his heaviest defeat as coach - and the club’s biggest Super League loss since 2005.

But Wane insisted he “wasn’t stressed one little bit” considering the 10 frontline players he had missing.

While he admitted being shocked by the landslide scoreline, he said: “We knew we’d be up against it. They were playing very well, we were in the situation we were in.

“There are no excuses, the injuries and illnesses are what they are... we made things hard for ourselves.

“They were outstanding in attack, defended well, and we weren’t.

“We gave them too many sets, and combined with how much we lacked energy, we gave them good field position.

“But I’m not stressed one little bit.

“I know what we have, where we’re at, and I don’t want to take anything away from Wakefield.

“If they want to book their coaches to London, let them, but they were good today.

“I know what I have in the club, how we can play, so that result didn’t stress me in the slightest.

“Don’t confuse that with Catalans away (58-16 loss last year) and Castleford away (42-14), absolutely not. Don’t compare them. I went to Catalans with a strong team, and Cas too, so I am not one little bit stressed.

“I know the belief in the players.”

Prop Dom Crosby could make his first appearance of the year in Friday’s home match against Castleford.

John Bateman and Sean O’Loughlin may also return from injuries.

“We’ve got a week to make sure the players get over this quickly,” added Wane.

Wakefield led 22-0 at half-time and added seven further tries, to claim their fourth straight win under Chris Chester.

He said: “It was the best team display I’ve seen in Super League in a long, long time.

“I thought it’d be a lot closer, I certainly wasn’t expecting that, but it shows what belief does to players.”
