Prescott eyes quick return
Paul Prescott has been boosted by encouraging news on the medical front.
The young Wigan prop could be back in action next month as his knee injury has turned out not to be as serious as originally feared.
Prescott suffered ligament damage during the home clash with Bradford 10 days ago, and it was forecast he faced eight weeks on the sidelines.
But a tear to a less problematical tendon has now been diagnosed, so Prescott doesn't face surgery.
He said: "The doctor has told me it's a grade two medial ligament tear which isn't too bad.
"It would have be a lot worse if it had been the cruciate.
"I have to wear a brace on the knee for two weeks, but I should be able to put my full weight on it after that.
"And I'm able to do upper body training to keep up with the boys so it's not too bad."
The former Ince amateur has suffered a detached retina and a wrenched shoulder joint in the past, so is no stranger to the treatment bench.
But he is hoping to shake off this latest setback at pace and has set himself a target comeback – to try to be fit for the start of
Warriors' Challenge Cup campaign in April.
He added: "Hopefully I'm looking at six weeks rather than eight weeks out – if all goes well and according to plan.
"I've had a few knocks in the past, but have got over them. Injuries are part of the game and I actually regard myself as quite lucky."
Meanwhile, Wigan received a massive boost last night when Trent Barrett
escaped a ban after appearing before the RFL's disciplinary committee.
He is now free to face Huddersfield on Saturday after receiving just a 3,000 fine for his dangerous throw against in the 32-20 defeat at Warrington on Saturday.
But Richard Mathers will not be able to play again until after Easter following the three-match ban handed down to him.
Mathers will not return until the Wakefield game at the JJB Stadium on March 28 after he was found guilty of a high tackle in the same match at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Pat Richards looks set to take over the full-back role at the Galpharm Stadium.
The draw for the fourth round of the Challenge Cup takes place in Leeds tomorrow and will be broadcast on Radio 5 Live at 7.25pm.
The games will be played on April 19 and 20.
