The Liam Farrell Column: TV showdown was a great advert

We were looking at a completion rate of 100 per cent at half-time, and I also thought we defended very well when we had to.

The second half wasn’t quite as good, but we just had to make sure Castleford didn’t come back into it.

You’re obviously trying to maintain your standards at 100 per cent, but you know in reality you can’t keep that up for ever.

Fair play to Cas, they came back into it and gave it a real go.

But we made sure we didn’t switch off and undo all the good work from the first half.

Thankfully we’ve got a good pair of half-backs and a good full-back that helped us control the game.

Shaun Wane wasn’t totally pleased at the end, especially with the way we’d let it slip in the second half.

He wants perfection every week, and we understand that – it’s what keeps us on our toes.

But Cas showed what they can do when they knocked us out of the cup a few years ago, so it was good to be able to see it through.

There’s been a lot of talk about the try awarded to Dom Manfredi by the video ref.

I know refs have got a very tough job at the best of times, and I don’t think he was helped by the on-field decision being a try.

Looking at the replays, it was difficult to find conclusive proof he hadn’t got a fingertip on the ball, so I suppose he had to give a try even though it didn’t look like one.

They say these things even themselves up over the course of a season, and we certainly feel we’ve been on the wrong end of a few tough calls this year.

Fortunately we got this one, and Dom certainly wasn’t complaining at getting another one for his try tally!

It’s set up a big semi-final against Hull in a few weeks, but of course we’ve got a few big games in the league to take care of before we even start to think about that.

And this weekend’s game at Catalans will help us to focus our minds firmly on the league.

It’s always a tough game away in France, and this one will be no different.

We know we can put a little bit of breathing space between us and them with a win, which would make our position in the top four even more secure.

We’ll be coming up against our old mate Pat Richards in France this weekend.

I won’t be making the trip as I won’t be involved, but I know the rest of the lads will be looking forward to catching up with him.

He was a great player for this club for the seven or eight years he was here, his goalkicking was absolutely fantastic.

Hopefully he’ll have an off-day this weekend with the boot - but we know they don’t come around all that often!
