Tomkins to stay until 2014
Stand-off Sam Tomkins has signed an extended contract with Wigan.
Tomkins, 20, currently had two years left on his contract but the Warriors have moved to secure his services for a further three years meaning he is now committed to the Warriors for the next five years.
Chairman Ian Lenagan said: "I am delighted that we have agreed terms with Sam Tomkins until 2014.
"He is a wonderfully gifted young player who has progressed through our Academy and Reserve side over the past couple of seasons and has now become a regular member of our first team squad.
"Since making his five-try debut against Whitehaven in the Cup last season, he is a player who has proved himself at Super League level and I'm sure he will go on to win caps at International level.
"We have been working on the deal with Sam for the last six weeks and we look forward now to the next five years with Sam in the Wigan team.
"Sam Tomkins is the first obvious example of the wealth of talent coming through the Wigan Scholarship and Academy system, in which we are investing heavily, and which is key to the future success of Wigan Warriors in Super League."
Coach Brian Noble said: "Sam is a really talented played with a magnificent attitude. I have been really pleased with his form in 2009. If he continues to progress in the manner he has shown so far I am sure he will be a key player for Wigan for many years to come."
Tomkins has scored eight tries in 15 appearances this season. He made his first-team debut last year in the Challenge Cup, scoring five tries against Whitehaven.
Tomkins added: "I am really pleased to have agreed an extended contract. I am a local lad and for me to play for my hometown club is something very special.
"The Wigan supporters have always been fantastic and I feel I am learning all the time with experienced players around me."
