In the past, the Warriors boss has set a rigid date for the bulk of the squad, with all the internationals told a later date when to return to action.

But he has taken a more flexible approach this time to meet the demands of his first-teamers.

Sean O’Loughlin, for example, will be given a longer break than usual to nurse his injuries. And Anthony Gelling has been told he can spend longer visiting family in New Zealand.

Wane explained: “Normally I’ve done it like, ‘most back this day, internationals back this day’ – this year I’ve changed it and done it individually, depending on who needs what.

“Gells has longer than expected. He’s impressed me this year so he’s earned the right – it’s more important for me that he spends time with his family.

“When he came back in last year he killed it at the VO2 Max (fitness) testing, so I’ve no doubts he’ll do the right things.

“And Lockers doesn’t need to be flogged through November – we will benefit more from him having a good rest and getting his hamstring and calf injuries right.”

Meanwhile, Liam Farrell is the only Wigan player in the England 19-man squad for tomorrow’s match against France.
