Hide AdLeuluai has a close affinity with Wigan, having made 189 appearances in six years up to 2012.
He returned to the club for several weeks last summer, assisting the coaching staff while he recovered from a season-ending injury.
He was in England as his wife Natalie – sister of ex-player Darrell Goulding – was visiting family.
They have since had a baby, and it’s not clear whether that is a factor in his possible return to the UK.

Wigan are also chasing a winger for 2017 to replace Josh Charnley, who is switching codes with Sale Sharks.
Rugby manager Kris Radlinski flew Down Under earlier this week.
