The ongoing Trent Barrett saga may be resolved on Monday.
The Australian stand-off's agent will meet Wigan boss Ian Lenagan on Monday to discuss the release from the final season of his three-year deal.

But Wayne Beavis is adamant there will be no compensation to the English club for releasing the former Test five-eighth.

Wigan have conceded Barrett is unlikely to see out the final year of his three-year deal with the Warriors, but have said his release has not been finalised because "discussions on compensation have not yet even started".

Asked on Friday what he understood by that statement, Beavis said: "Wouldn't have a clue, never heard of it before in my life.

"I don't think there'll be any compensation."

The practice of paying transfer fees rarely happens in Australia.

Barrett has requested the release for personal reasons and Beavis said this week there were four or five NRL clubs in the hunt for his signature.

"I've just put the unconditional release application in and I'm waiting on him," added Beavis. "I've spoken to him and we're going to catch up on Monday."

Lenagan, in Australia on business connected with his software company, is also on the hunt for a replacement for Barrett for 2009.

if no compensation being payed dont let him leave. why should english clubs always loose out on players when they so called get home sick. why should we settle for some other second rate player from australia in exchange. and if he cant play or earn money when he goes back home because of contractual rights from wigan then i say tough luck at the moment with all his crying to go home is upsetting the apple cart at wigan. make him play in the reserves no player should be bigger than the club on or off the field this Mr Lenegan is to soft with his players toughen up and dont be another whelan.

K.H. in an ideal world it would be good idea. however we need him off the salary cap A.S.A.P. however im sure wigan must have paid thousand in re-settlement fees and flights for trent therefore this disgusting leech of and agent must accept that. i would also like to think that wigan never use any player under this agent again, we see what agents have done to soccer and dont want it to come into our game

Wigan are well within their rights to look after their own interests. He signed a 3 year deal. If he wants out, Wigan must ensure that they are compensated be that financially or with a swap deal. Fair play to Lenangan for weighing up the options.

we should do what paramatta did to Lyon and hold on to his contract for one year - sure he can go back but he cant play for anyone until his contract expires. Why should we lose out ?

Well if that is TB's agents stance then we should hold onto TB for the remainder of his contact. I bet you Beavis will have negotiated a hefty wedge with the 4 or 5 NRL clubs he has lined up. Greedy agents are the scourge of world sport!!!

first we have the football taking the mick out of us and now barrett's agent!
i wouldn't keep him from playing by allowing him to go back home and holding his registration forms, that's petty and not the wigan rugby way.
however if we've put a penny towards re-housing or flights i would be peeved, why should we?? his agent should be sorting that out as i can't see eithetr trent or him being shy of a few bob.
at least a world class hooker and maybe a half back for next year please mr lenaghan.
