Wigan Warriors forward Stuart Fielden has been awarded a consolation prize by being picked for the England team to face Wales tomorrow.
And while the player isn't happy after missing out on the real thing – the World Cup in Australia – he will feature in the warm-up game at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster.

Fielden has pledged to stay positive and give his all for his country even though he didn't make the final cut.

The former Great Britain forward and the game's costliest player was included in the original train-on squad, but was over-looked when England coach Tony Smith named his final group of 24 players earlier this week.

Fielden said: "Obviously I'm not happy to be left out of the World Cup squad, but I'm not really thinking about it. I'm just focusing on the game against Wales.

"I'll be capped for the 30th time tomorrow, and not many players can say they have achieved that, so I'm going to concentrate all my efforts there."

Smith will not name any Leeds or St Helens players in the side playing at Doncaster, preferring to rest them all after their Grand Final exertions.

Fielden's Wigan colleagues Gareth Hock, Micky Higham and Mark Calderwood have been picked for the World Cup and should play tomorrow.
Calderwood has admitted his World Cup gamble has paid off.

The winger was originally called up by Scotland, but turned his back on Steve McCormack's team when he was offered a place in England's initial squad.

Glad Calderwood is gone
"I've dug deep for these last few weeks and that's obviously why I was picked"
how can he admit that he only "dug deep" for the last few weeks, the exact attitude that is not needed in the dressing room or on the field, yeah players drop in form but fans ask for commitment everytime you set foot on the field. And the fact he was leaving means nothing just look at Higham, knew he was going, gave everything in every game, its called having pride in yourself Mark.

You never know Fielden may get a call up if someone gets injured, he has to prove against the likes of Wales he still has the hunger!

I dont think fielden can prove anything against wales, his last 4 games where great preformances against saints bradford catalans and leeds, whats a game against wales gonna do, no disrespect to wales but them 4 are better class of opposition than wales

stu has been playing well most of the season. not only at the end. when we beat leeds at home he was superb. i dont think peacock has had the better of him this season and i think smith doesnt rate him and cant see further than that. but i agree with ste. hes mad a valid and sensible point. but smith has all but slammed the door in stu,s face by stating that he will happily move one of the second row forward if needed

Perhaps Tony smith can just see Cameron smith tearing through the lazy markers or one off the ruck where feilden goes for a rest. Feilden is too slow to deal with the likes of smith,Thurston and Lockyer, that has got to be the reason he has not picked him, if so then i say fair enough. look where wigan concede most points and look who is the nearest defender.
I think tony smith is looking towards his opposition when selecting his squad.
