Chairman Ian Lenagan has hinted that Wigan's traditional Good Friday derby against St Helens may be moved to Easter Monday next year.
Wigan Athletic host Arsenal on Easter Saturday and JJB Stadium owner Dave Whelan is understood to be reluctant to host a Latics game the day after a Warriors match, following stinging criticism of the pitch last season.
Lenagan said future clashes can be avoided.

"If we play at home on Easter Monday then I think we would still get the same size crowd as we would on Good Friday," he said.
"We can work together to ensure that Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic play at home on alternative seasons at the Easter period. It's not difficult.

"The RFL are very good at planning ahead and there is communication between the RFL, the FA and the Premier League."
Next season's Super League fixtures are due out next month.

Sts fan living in enemy territory,

Why cant they reverse the fixtures and play the Good Friday game at Saints? Like LuckyGriff says above, its a traditional fixture and generates a sell out crowd which sets everyone up for a good weekend.

An Easter Monday game in my opinion would have significantly fewer fans watching. This is going to affect Wigan again, I can see other fixtures being moved to accomodate the football.

Landlords have more power than lodgers. If you don't like this situation you have the freedom to go and rent another facility.

So basically the line Whelan fed us about not being able to get the staff in to the stadium in time as it was too short notice was just a BIG FAT LIE!!!

He just wants us out his stadium!

As I see it from a rival Rugby League club, Wigan RL are gettin shafted well and truely by Dave Whelan and his beloved Latics! It wouldnt be so bad if Wigan Latics were a decent club, but in football terms they are a joke, no fans, no history, never won any major trophy. As a Man United fan everytime I have been the JJB to see the reds take on Wigan it has been clear that their is more away fans than home fans.

specrapp, the latics rent from whelan too. the fact of the matter is that football brings in more money than any other sport in the country. dont mistake yorkshire dave's love of money for a devotion to latics

It sounds like this is the only time this will arise, if IL can agree with the Premier League to avoid a clash in future. It isn't as if Latics are going to be in the Premier League forever, so let them enjoy themselves while it lasts, bless them. I can understand some paranoia on Whelan's part after last year's criticism of the pitch (which the Warriors managed to cut up without even playing on it, apparently).
I think we ought to move next year's game to Saints, with them coming to us in 2010. It is not as if we beat them anywhere anymore, sad to say.

Why can't the stupid footy team move their game to the Sunday? If they do it now it gives the fans and the staff 6 months notice. Lenegan is pathetic if he lets Whelan move a traditional good friday game to easter monday.

Wigan warriors have been made to look a laughing stock once if Lenegan is as passionate about wigan warriors as he says she should be fighting this tooth and nail, said it all along don`t trust dave`two faced` whelan as far as you can throw him.if this happens don`t buy food or drink at the jjb, don`t pay to park hit whelan in the pocket thats the only thing he knows, lastly wish we could get out of the jjb and tell whelan and his beloved latics what to do with his stadium!!

Whelan the so-called loyal warrior fan puts a block on them playing at his club - obviously he is a major warriors fan the way he treats them - if he was as loyal to Warriors as he was t Latics then he'd try heal the wounds of the Play-off by sorting it so he can have a Sellout crowd to the ground, this is getting tedious the way we get the boot to allow a 2nd rate footy team play and HOPEFULLY lose....hope Latics go down this year - then maybe we can get to be more elcomed at our own ground! Plus it will give 2 fingers to Whelan and his little fans!
