Higham fears for his future

Micky Higham knows a cloud hangs over his career at Wigan after Warriors swooped to sign Australian hooker Mark Riddell.
But the 27-year-old has vowed to fight for his future after the Parramatta Eels forward was handed a three-year deal at the JJB Stadium.
Higham – who is out of contract at the end of this season – has not held formal talks with the club about the 2009 campaign and beyond.

Yet in recent weeks, new deals have been agreed with Gareth Hock, Sean O'Loughlin, Sam Tomkins and Mark Flanagan.
Now chairman Ian Lenagan has lured Riddell to Wigan.
So when you chuck youngster Mick McIlorum into the mix, it currently leaves Warriors with three hookers next year.

Higham said: "I've had a chat with Brian Noble about it and he agrees there's still plenty to play for.
"But I've not spoken to Ian Lenagan yet.
"I heard some while ago that they were chasing Mark Riddell.
"But I feel as though I'm one of the senior players at the club, and I have plenty of go in me yet.

"I will continue to give my all to the Wigan team, just as I always have done, even if it is to put me in the shop window.
"And if there is no new deal for me then that's life, and life goes on."

Higham is a certain starter against Warrington at the JJB Stadium
tomorrow (kick-off 7.30pm).
Riddell, who weighs in at 99kg – the same as Saints hooker Keiron Cunningham – has been with Parramatta since 2005 and has played 77 senior games for the club.

This season, he has slimmed down due to his desire to become more of an 80-minute player following changes to the interchange laws in
Australia, and has gone some way to losing the 'Piggy' nickname he
previously carried.

Parramatta's own player profiles concede Riddell is 'something of an anti-hero' when it comes to conditioning work.
But after embracing a healthier lifestyle, Riddell is now reaping the benefits, including his new three-year deal with Warriors.

Wigan Reserves entertain Warrington at Edge Hall Road in Orrell on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm.
The Under-18s play St Helens at Knowsley Road on the same day (3.45pm) in a curtain-raiser to the Saints versus Catalans Super League clash at 6pm.

Its the end of the road for 'One-trick Mick' i am afraid.

He will probably end up somewhere like Widnes where all Wigan's British players go to.

I see Noble is building up a foriegn team like he did at Bradford.

The end is nigh! Mickey is a hard working, honest pro, but he is definitely not good enough for Wigan! We need someone more creative around the ruck. Good No 9's take the ball to the defensive line and as a consequence commit the opposing team as well as bringing the offensive line forward at pace. Keiron Cunningham and Terry Newton are masters of their trade, Piggy Riddell will join their small club next year.

All we need now is a couple of pack men to give us 'go forward' - sign on line Carl Webb and Jason Ryles - and a loose forward with ball handling skills to complement the halves and the hooker. As for the backs I'll leave that for another day.

Come on Ste you need to read the new rules - a club can only employ a limited number of overseas players as the policy chnages to encourage more youth development. Fortunately for the Wire they can still poach junior players from Wigan! By the way, I can see MH signing for Warrington in order to strengthen the Wigan connection!!

Sorry Sean he aint good enough for Wires.

If only you could get rid of all the other dead wood
like 'One Trick Mick'.

By this I mean O'loughlin, Leulali, Colborn, Mathers and Calderwood plus the 'White Elephant' himself Mr Fielden.

If you replaced these with quality, you might have a decent Wigan team again.

ste is being is old idiotic self as usual. but doesnt warrent responses about rugby anymore.
if wigan beat wire this week. warrington will be out of the top 6 and already out of the cup. wire are not pretenders to the throne. they are pretenders to be pretenders. i got to disagree with edwards fan club in that mickey higham does take the ball to the line quite a lot. and on occasions breaks it. the problem is that he as no awareness of whats going on around him and therefore cant bring others into play. hence the title headless chicken.in my opinion tommorow is a test as to how far wigan have come under brian noble. what happened in cardiff was a disgrace. if we cant show up this weekend on our home ground. then there is no excuses anymore. lets wait and see. come on wigan!!

Its crunch time for both teams. Wigan need a win to keep their season alive. Wire need to win just to save face after the embarrasement of the last few weeks.

Come 9pm on Friday I fully expect a Wire win to be secured and the Wigan walk to be in full flow.

Ste - obviously the deadwood you refer to wouldn't get into the current Warrington trophy laden squad! After 17 long years without a trophy (have you ever seen them win one?)you would have been excited that after all the money thay have spent they would be on the verge of ending such a barren spell. Obviously, you have got over excited! Due to Warrington's dominant position in SL and their exploits in the CC you feel it necessary to criticise another team. I'll give you a tip - take off those rose coloured glasses and realise that your team will win exactly the same as mine - nowt!

For what it's worth, I agree with you about the players you have named, but then I am entitled to given that I am a season ticket holder. Given that you don't watch Wigan week in week out how are you in a position to offer your opinion? Unless of course, you are a secret Wigan fan!
