Great Britain international forward Gareth Hock has signed a one-year extension to his current contract that will see him stay with the Warriors until the end of 2011.
Hock, a product of the club's scholarship programme, will see his new contract take him past his 28th birthday.

Wigan chairman and owner Ian Lenagan, currently in Australia hunting for new players for 2009, said: "Gareth is proof again of the great talent that comes from the Wigan area and we are very pleased that he will be with us for another three and a half years."

Head coach Brian Noble added: "It was always a pleasure working with Gareth when I was Great Britain coach and when I joined Wigan that admiration has grown. He is a tough, resilient player who wears his heart on his sleeve and is also a very good footballer. He really compliments our pack well."

Hock made his debut for the Warriors in 2003 when he burst onto the scene and collected the Super League Young Player of the Year Award at the prestigious Man of Steel ceremony that season.

He said: "I am a Wigan lad and I love playing for my home town club. I am aiming to have a good second half to the season with the hope of helping Wigan to a Final and being selected for England in the World Cup."

good news for wiganers. there are too many of our best products playing in other teams in SL. hope he can start to chanel his aggression in a positive way becauce these suspensions are letting everyone down. without gaz and terry newton in the team sean long plays freely against us. with gaz and terry in the team he is more aware of taking the ball to the line.

Good news. Shows Lenagan planning his squad a few years ahead now. Also good to see Gareth string, not one but two sentences together in this report.

I may be reading this worng misterlowe but are you aware that Newton no longer plays for Wigan?

benedict, how many players would openly cry as terry did. i use newton as an example becauce since him i cannot think of any other player that shows REAL PRIDE IN WIGAN. there where none playing at the weekend, thats for sure. gaz is from the same mold as where lots of the older greats like edwards and co.

I agree misterlowe. Worst bit of business this past decade letting Terry Newton go. But, Millwards love child had to be brought in at any cost.
