Gareth Hock has spoken for the first time about the shock ban he was handed after man-handling the referee.
The fiery Wigan back row forward insists that his five-match punishment was severe and believes he was made an example of.

But he has learned his lesson and has vowed to blast back in the Grand Final play-offs after serving the last of his suspensions when Warriors take on St Helens in the final Super League game of the season at Knowsley Road on Friday (8pm).

Hock was sent off after he grabbed the match official towards the end of a woeful Wigan performance against Huddersfield Giants at the JJB Stadium.

He was subsequentlty hauled before the disciplinary committee and handed a five-match ban which ruled him out of the rest of the championship.
Hock said: "I didn't think I deserved five games.

"I took hold of the referee's elbow after he'd disallowed a try I thought I'd scored.
"There wasn't much in it, I was just frustrated and felt hard done to but they came down on me tough. I've certainly learned my lesson. I won't be doing it again."

Hock's indiscretion was untimely. The week before his misdemeanour, the RFL had written to all clubs warning that mobbing or intimidating referees would not be tolerated.
He added: "I think they made an example of me."

I agree with Gaz that he was made an example of, but it was needed, RL was getting like soccer (the Stains mobbing of the ref should have been dealt with severely). Keep our sport clean and disiplined!
As for "corrupt referrees" absolute garbage from paranoid people!

5 Games was a little harsh considering he just grabbed an arm but you can't grab a ref so he got what he deserved. It wasn't like the try would have made a difference, Hock needs to learn to control himself and his offloads. Some games he is excellent and everything works other times he can go for two or three games without a single off load coming off.

As for the corrupt refs misterlowe is in cloud cuckoo land. They may sometimes get it wrong but they do so cos they are human not cheating. Although still don't believe you should be able to ref your home town team not because I believe they will be biased but they are only human and it will be on their mind that they have to be seen to be extra fair and it may en up working against the home town team its an extra pressure that they don't need.
