Trent Barrett has been anointed one of the club's best ever overseas signings by four of Wigan's greatest legends.
Shaun Edwards, Andy Farrell, Denis Betts and Kris Radlinski have saluted his performances for the Warriors these last two years.

And as Barrett prepares to leave these shores, they say he will be remembered as a true Wigan great.

Former skipper Edwards, the most decorated rugby league player ever, said: "I definitely think Trent is one of the best overseas signings that the club has ever made.

"He's had a really positive impact on the club.
"You can always tell the true quality of a player when the team is losing, and the amount of effort they put in.

"What sets Trent apart is that he's a great competitor. He undoubtedly has all the talent and skill in the world, but he also has a real competitive spirit."

Former Warriors forward and coach Betts echoed Edwards' comments.

"He'll be remembered as one of the best," Betts said.

"There have been a lot of trying times at Wigan in recent year but he's helped them move on. I would have loved to have had him in the side while I was coach, and I would definitely have loved having him there while I was playing – I may have scored a few more tries!

"It's been great just to watch him play. When he's been in the side, Wigan have had a chance no matter who they've played.

"There are good players and there are great players, and there's no doubting which category he falls in."

Barrett, 30, leaves to join Cronulla after Wigan's Grand Final hopes ended with an 18-14 defeat at Leeds.

"I think everyone realises he's world class," said ex-captain Farrell.

"He's been great for Wigan. I was a bit envious when he signed because I would have loved to have played in the same team as him.

"I played against him a few times and so I know what a class act he is – he's among the very best there is."

And ex-full-back Radlinski added: "It's one of my few regrets that I never got a chance to play alongside him.

"I always knew how good he was as a ball-player but I've been amazed by his defence, he loves to put a shot on players.

"He's a great bloke, too."

At his best Trent has been incredible. However he was somewhat inconsistent this season. Still, thanks for the good bits, and best wishes for the future.

Matt King has been dire for Wire we all know that! 2009 will hopefully see him do a Pat Richards and develop into a force in SL.

This is a decent rugby league team and it has the potential to develop and has the money under the salery cap to sign players. Warrington is a side of mercenaries, a team with no legitimate reason why they should be better next year. Ste you take shots at Wigan but Wigan RL is a team with a spine of young developing players who have already shown themselves to be 3rd in the competition, we have reserve and academy grand finalists and we have let go players who we already have replacments for and now have the ability to bring in players go of room under the salery cap. Wigan are an imroving team who are 4th in the table and 3rd in the comp. Warrington are a team that has peaked at the dizzying heights of 6th and have done nothing in the playoffs

Trent will be missed but we have a great replacement in Smith - he has already shown his abilities and has been well matched with Lulu - the team has already proved in the latter end of 2008's season the form they are in, so hopefully we get a better Captain in Fielden to take lead, as Lockers has not been missed since his injury as a player or as a Captain.....2009 will be Wigan's return to Trophy winning form - the fall of Saints and Leeds is approaching - with players like Cunningham only getting 12 month contracts so the greats are getting closer to retirement - the game is going full circle with teams like Warrington, Huddersfield and the Hulls, etc always struggling to match the top of the table. Cant wait for 2009 and another close fight for the top. Back to Baz - you will be missed not only as a world class player but as a Gentleman of the field taking time to chat with fans and sign autographs.....but also Higham and Calders - Good Luck to you all and TB hope you and Kylie have a healthy Aussie baby shortly....be sure to visit the only Superleague team worth playing for soon! Youll always be welcome!

talking of which..man of tin roby hasnt exactly set the world alight
trent was the best and still is, kenny was a great player in a semi pro league. playing at centre. not exactly the same comparison of a player playing at 6 in todays super fast proffesional game
impossible to make comparisons

Misterlowe, you have embarrased yourself yet again with a pop at Brett Kenny, yes, we all know that sometimes kennys heart was not in it, but he did only play for Wigan 4 months. But to call him a great player in a semi-pro league, you need your head read! The Fact that Brett Kenny kept Wally Lewis, (the vice captain) out of the 1982 first test team (played 3 games at Standoff, then moved to centre to accomodate "the King) in the tour known as "THE INVINCIBLES" should be enough, but if its not, then the fact that Kenny played 17 tests, 17 State of origin and won 4 Grand finals should be.
Oh! he also won the golden boot as the best player on the planet!
If that is still not enough, brett kenny is named in the top 100 players of ALL TIME!
Brett holds the record of 264 club appearances and scored 110 tries for PARRAMATTA, hardly a pub team playing semi-pro rugby. His 4 months at Wigan yielded 19 tries and he was the first australian to win the Lance Todd Trophy. I Honestly cant believe anyone could come up with such a dumb statement, but then again!

Trent Barrett is a Great player, with sublime natural skills and football instincts, he has proved his quality with an average wigan team, standing head and shoulders above the rest. Great player!

For Brett Kenny, Read "legend"
