Joe Lydon says a greater emphasis will be placed on cranking up Wigan's production line of homegrown talent.
The Central Park legend last week switched roles, from chief executive to performance director. He will have complete responsibility for the recruitment, development and performance of all Wigan players and coaches — from the first-team down to the s
cholarship.

And Lydon said one of his first duties is to improve the talent pool coming through the ranks.

He said: "If you think of the development system as a pyramid, with the first-team at the top, what we plan to do is invert that so that more focus is paid on the scholarship and development of players and that will naturally filter through to the first team.

"My immediate job is to find out what systems are right for Wigan."
With the overseas quota reduced annually over the next four years, the Warriors hope to identify and develop more talented youngsters.

"It can get quite complicated because as well as the salary cap there is the federation list and non-federation list (overseas players) to consider," he said.

Lydon said his new role came after it became apparent for a director to take control of the performance side of the club and the junior talent.
Replacing him as chief executive is Mick Hogan.

Along with chairman Ian Lenagan, president Peter Higginbottom and an as-yet appointed financial director, the five will form a new management board.

saying it joe and implementing are two very different things.
most wiganers would love to see the kids come through if there good enough.
as what happened with yourself and greg, apparently no good at the time, but wigan later dig deep for your services.
good luck with the job joe,it certainly requires doing well.

" Lenagan said.... a new player performance manager would be appointed to work alongside Noble....."

Isn't player performance the job of the coach? - if not then what is Noble responsible for?

And what is the role of Joe Lydon - We were told only a few weeks ago that he was now performance director with "complete responsibility for the recruitment, development and performance of all Wigan players and coaches — from the first-team down to the scholarship."

And now we need someone else?
Confused? So am I!

Lack of Leadership starts at the top Mr Lenagan - and it starts with clear, simple, unambiguous communication.

Let me give you seven habits of highly effective Rugby league teams:

1. Fitness levels are high
2. Skill levels are high
3. Losing is not tolerated
4. Pay and reward are linked to performance
5. Poor performance results in not playing - or getting the sack
6. The team have clear goals and targets
7. All the above are the job of the coaching staff – who also work under rule 5

Try these in the quiet dressing room – they might help
