Pongia bigs up Fielden

World record signing Stuart Fielden has been backed to rediscover his old form – by a man who himself was once one of rugby league's most feared props.
After a disappointing campaign last year, the 28-year-old's form has gradually improved in recent weeks and coach Brian Noble singled him out for special praise for his no-nonsense display in the 38-20 win over Harlequins last Friday night.
He is still some way from the destructive form that convinced the Warriors to buy him for £450,000 from Bradford two years ago.
But Kiwi Test legend Quentin Pongia, one of the most respected front rowers in the game during his era, says there's no reason why that won't "click" in the final weeks of this season.
"Fielden stood out when he came to first grade, he was one of the best young players that GB had and was a big unit," said Pongia, who retired after more than a year with Wigan in 2003.
"I remember Robbie Paul telling me all about him, he had big raps on him.
"It's a shame that the Wigan fans have probably not seen the best of him yet. No doubt he will come good this year, he knows what is expected of him and how he can play.
"The good thing Fielden has is a coach who believes in him. Brian Noble brought him over from Bradford and he has faith in him – you'll probably find that it'll just click.
