Wigan fans will be relieved to know the camel is alive and well.
And the goat, the geese and the alpaca. Back in 2000, the Australian rugby league legend that was Steve 'the Pearl' Renouf came to play at the JJB Stadium.
The mere fact the Brisbane Broncos centre had signed should have been excitement enough.
Giddy Wigan fans were reminded of another Aboriginal great who had graced Central Park and Wembley 15 years earlier, the one and only John Ferguson.
But Renouf made even more headlines when he revealed not what he had brought with him – a try-scoring ability that was the envy of the NRL – but what he had left 'in care' back home in Australia, goats, chickens,
alpacas and a camel called Matilda all on a 48-acre ranch in northern Queensland.
Then there was another eye-opener for the Wigan faithful.
Renouf had established his reputation as one of leading rugby league centres on the world stage despite having been diagnosed with diabetes when he was younger.
But the condition had not lessened his physical prowess or skill levels.
He said: "At the age of 23, six years after signing with Brisbane Broncos I was diagnosed with type-one diabetes which meant daily
injections.
"I remember that I had been losing weight quite rapidly and I was always wanting to go to the toilet.
"Even though it was the start of pre-season, I had very little energy and I couldn't lift anything in the gym. I decided to go to the doctor and found out that I had the condition.
