Nine players from last season's Wigan team are heading to the World Cup.
All 10 competing countries named their final panels for the tournament in Australia, which begins on October 25.

And Warriors fans will be able to cheer on many of their players.
Gareth Hock and departing duo Mark Calderwood and Micky Higham have been named in Tony Smith's 24-man England squad.

England play in the Super Group with Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, with the top three of those sides going through to the semi-finals.

The other six nations play in two pools of three, with the winners
battling it out for the other semi-final spot.
Scrum-half Thomas Leuluai will be representing New Zealand and is the only Super League star in the Kiwi squad after Leeds' Brent Webb pulled out through injury.
And Wigan also has three Irishmen and two Samoans involved!

Australian Pat Richards, whose parents are from Dublin, prop Eamon O'Carroll and hooker Mike McIlorum will be representing the Emerald Isle, while Harrison Hansen and George Carmont play for Samoa.
Hansen had previously represented England at academy level and New Zealand at Test level, while centre Carmont has captained Samoa in the past.

Ox are you Brian Noble by any chance - as Calderwood is a star player - the only reason he has under-performed at Wigan is cos he was never given a chance to show his abilities - cos a certain coach (Nobby) seems to have a grudge against him - possibly cos Calders is an ex rhino?! player and Nobby being a former Bulls coach - why else would he have him water-carrying all season in favour of playing Colbon (a player that should be in the lower league not Superleague) - we will see what Wigan missed when Calderwood shows his star quality at Hull next year....and we will all realise letting him go is a mistake we will live to regret. One final point: Season Tickets go up a lot in price, the salary cap is nowhere near filled (Calderwood, Higham, Barrett have gone with only Riddell new for 2009) - so where is all this extra season ticket and under salaried money going?

Also how can any Wigan winger prove themselves when 1 trick Nobby's only plan is to play up the middle? If Richards was not at Back or kicking goals, he would not be as recognised on the field and his points per season would be a lot lower. The furthest out the ball goes is Centres with Carmont and Phelps featuring more than Calderwood, Colbon or Richards. It was mainly Lulu and Barrett that gets the air time with the props, why? Cs of 1 trick pony Noble - lets hope we see more Winger work in 2009 otherwise we will could struggle to topple Saints and Rhinos. They are beatable with the right coaching!

calderwood looked like the player he is unless alright he scored a try against nationl league players but was great in defence only joking 2 national league player almost scored tries in a england 74-0 win his centre saved him from a try went he went past calderwood as he was not there and a scrum saved from another thank god for going to hull fc why is he on the plane to australia when better wingers are not

Its amazing how 1 good game in defence and a few games where Calderwooden has not bottled it he is suddenly England material again?? Maybe its down to his new found confidence, Nobby was right to drop him, he was a liability. But credit to Calders he has almost got his mojo back, all he needs now is to show the bottle to take on players and run straight instead of crabbing across the field. As for Nobby alegedly not picking him because Jayzn thinks he is an ex-Leeds player and Nobby wont play ex Leeds players?? Why does Nobby persist with an under par Mathers??

Calderwood is a much better player than people think, could it not be wigans fault that he did not score as many ties at wigan as he did at leeds. The fact is while he was at wigan he suffered because of the lack of try scoring opportunities handed to him,how many times was an overlap created for him by his centre. The answer is very very rarely, it was no wonder he made defensive errors occasionally he must have been freezing out there on the wing with no involvement in the game.I look forward to him scoring a lot of trys at hull to prove wigan were wrong in letting him go.Unfortunately his face just didnt seem to fit.
