Pub's regular is a Poltergeist
A Wigan pub has been spooked by a crisp packet throwing poltergeist called George.
But while it may be tempting to ask for a packet of "saton" vinegar or "woocester sauce" crisps at the Old Pear Tree in Frog Lane the reality of living there is far less funny.
For sheer scale of activity this boozer must go down as one of the most paranormal pubs in the town.
"Something happens every day," says landlady Lynn Wilson. "We used to be freaked out by it but now we just turn round and tell George to behave.
"Although, it's still spooky locking up on a night."
Since the family took over in December last year they've already racked up a catalogue of encounters.
Keys go missing, light bulbs explode, the volume on the TVs turns up on its own, crisp packets are thrown at staff and even workmen have felt someone or something tugging at their leg.
Lynn, 40, said: "We were having the carpets fitted upstairs just after we moved in.
"And the workman came down to say 'did we know we had a ghost' because someone had been tugging at his ankle. When he went back upstairs all the off cuts from the carpet had been moved."
But for Lynn's 17-year-old daughter the encounter with George has been face-to-face.
She woke up one night on the settee to find the shadow of a man standing over her and once heard his footsteps on broken glass.
Katie said: "He's in his 70s and wears an old wax full length jacket. He's very dishevelled looking.
"One time he threw a glass at the cleaner. It smashed on the floor and I could clearly hear it crunching under an invisible foot."
The vault part of the bar is particularly active, according to psychics who regularly hold events at the bar.
George could even have been caught on CCTV.
"We have night vision on the CCTV," explains Katie. "A few times we've spotted orbs floating from the vault and through the back of the bar where the old doorway was before it was blocked up."
