Warnings from on high
"Ey-up what's tha' up teh" and "t'h bobbie's on his wa". Folk in the borough will soon be getting some "reet" good car safety advice.
From next week 20 talking warning signs will be installed in crime hotspots in Leigh town centre offering safety tips.
The signs will be fastened high on lampposts to keep them from being vandalised and a sensor will detect when people walk by and play a warning message.
Messages range from warning motorists not to leave their valuables on display in their cars, to beware of burglars operating in the area and keep mobile phones safe.
But Wigan and Leigh Community Safety Partnership is asking for people's suggestions for messages.
Any ideas for our lovely neighbours? Here's our top five:
1) Tha's bett-ur orf in Wigan.
2) What's tha up to Leyther.
3) Ow Do?
4) Tha brain's addled – geet a job don't rob.
5) Th'al get sauced, if tha gets catched.
People who write a message which is used will win £50 of high street vouchers from Wigan and Leigh Community Safety Partnership.
Suggestions can be sent to The Community Safety Team, Wigan Council, 17-19 The Wiend, Wigan, WN1 1PF or e-mailed to
saferwigan@wigan.gov.uk
The deadline for entries is April 30.
