Northward Faces on upward track

Northward Faces is in the process of putting songs on the disc for the first release to show off the band’s mixture of 1990s rock and indie sounds with elements of classic rock from across the decades.

A three-piece made up of vocalist and guitarist Ste Ashcroft, lead guitarist Stu Andrews and bassist and vocalist Josh Buckley, the band is recording the as-yet-untitled EP at its own Wigan Lane facility.

The group, which started off as a covers act but started performing its own self-written songs about two years ago, is also searching for a drummer to complete the line-up.

Northward Faces have also been giving Wigan music fans the chance to hear the new songs live with appearances at Doc’s Symposium, the Reet Good Beer Festival in aid of Wigan Youth Zone and a gig for Musicians Against Homelessness (MAH) in Skelmersdale.

Ste said: “We’ve been debuting a few of the songs and they’ve gone down very well. Recently we’ve had a successful couple of gigs and had some great feedback.

“We’ve got the first track recorded and we’ve another two to put on the EP. We’re thinking there will be between four and six tracks on the finished release.

“I suppose our sound is ‘90s rock ‘n’ roll. It’s heavily influenced by Guns ‘n’ Roses and Led Zeppelin, it’s a mixture of everything we’re into really.”

Ste says the band is looking to secure more live dates in the borough while working in the studio on the EP, which the band hopes will be out by Christmas.

Northward Faces’ songs span a variety of subjects but mostly revolve around aspects of ordinary life.

Ste said: “The song we’re pushing at the moment is Come And Get Lost (With Me), which is about looking for a new destination and changing your situation.

“We’ve got another one called Forget About It which is about going to the pub and watching the football, and we’re going to put on EP a song called Can’t See which is about touring, moving from town to town gigging.”
