WIGAN Pier Theatre Company is running a drama taster day for young people.
Open to new and existing members, the drama workshops – organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust – will take place at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts on Thursday, April 12 from 10am to 12.30pm for ages seven to 11s; 1pm to 3.30pm for ages 12 to 15s; and from 3pm to 5.30pm for 16 to 21s.
Working alongside professional theatre practitioners, anyone who attends will be able to take part in theatre games, speaking and confidence-building, physical skills and improvisation – while having great fun and making friends. There will even be some sessions in stage combat for the older age groups.
And involvement doesn’t need to stop there.
Wigan Pier Theatre Company has been running youth theatres locally since 1986, most recently in the Hawkley Hall, Hindley, Platt Bridge and Leigh areas.
The day will provide an opportunity to find out where you can access drama sessions throughout term-time outside of school, college or work.
Martin Green, development officer for WLCT, said: “Becoming a member of our groups can allow you to learn new skills, build confidence and make new friends in a rare environment working with professional actors and directors. Above all, it’s good fun.
“We are also interested in consulting with our members, old and new, about how we shape the future of the company.”
The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts is on Turner Street in Wigan, off Greenough Street, near the large Tesco.
There will be a charge of £2 per person and those interested must book beforehand by contacting Martin on 01942 828226 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
