A LOCAL priest is getting several hundred feet closer to God for charity.
Rev Janet Heighton, vicar at Christ the Servant Digmoor in Skelmersdale, is to take on a 150ft freefall abseil down Liverpool Cathedral in order to raise money for the church and Bishop Martin School.
The Rev Heighton has abseiled before, but this is the first freefall abseil she has attempted.
She said: “I am trying not to think about being terrified, and I certainly won’t be looking down! I haven’t decided whether I am opening my eyes at all yet!”
The vicar hopes to raise around £700 with the August 10 feat. She added: “Christ the Servant church is very active in raising money and supporting the community. We run the Teapot community cafe, are home to the Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade, and are a UKOnline centre so we really are a hub for all ages.
“I hope that the abseil will help us continue to provide this support and more, to our community. Giving half of the proceeds to Bishop Martin School also reflects the strong relationship we have with them.”
