COUNTRY musicians from the borough are celebrating after being shortlisted for the British scene’s biggest awards ceremony.

Hindley Green singer Toria Lynn and Leigh musician Gary Quinn have both been nominated for the annual British Country Music Awards (BCMA).

Toria, who released her debut EP Country Came Country Did last year, has confirmed her status as one of the brightest up-and-coming stars on the UK scene by being shortlisted in the Horizon Act category.

She admitted to being surprised by the nomination and says she faces fierce competition for the BCMA award.

Toria, 25, said: “The nomination was a complete shock but obviously I’m more than happy with it. I’ve had some really good feedback from my gigs this year and some of the people involved in the awards said they might see me there in a couple of years, so I wasn’t expecting anything sooner.

“It’s a tough competition because there’s some great acts but it’s just nice to be acknowledged. It’s hard enough to get country music out there so having your work recognised is great.”

Toria is currently in the process of putting together a full band line-up and also preparing her next single Take You There for release in October.

Gary, meanwhile, will hope to add to his impressive array of BCMA accolades this October as his five-piece live band is up for Group of the Year.

His previous achievements at the awards include winning Song of the Year twice and also taking the crown for best songwriter, but having spent much of 2015 writing new material for his upcoming second album admits he was just pleased to be nominated this time around.

Gary said: “This time last year I was up for six awards but I’m pretty chuffed to even be considered because we’ve not released any new material this year and there’s a great influx of new talent.

“It’s good for the full band to be recognised as this year was always about getting the group out on the road as much as possible. We’ve been travelling up and down the country to different types of festivals promoting country music.”

The BCMA takes place on October 25 at Heathrow in London. For more information about the musicians visit torialynn.com and www.garyjpquinn.co.uk.
