MUSIC fans looking forward to another dose of Merry Hell-raising with a Wigan folk-rock band can whet their appetite for the new songs further with a free EP.
Eight-piece Merry Hell is continuing to build anticipation for upcoming third album The Ghost In Our House and other stories by releasing a new video and limited-edition four track EP.
The band, made up of Andrew, Bob, John and Virginia Kettle on vocals, guitars and mandolin, keyboardist Lee Goulding, violinist Neil McCartney, bassist Nick Davies and drummer Andy Jones, will give away the CD for free at gigs between now and Christmas.
The EP is also available to buy from the group’s website and offers fans their first taste of the follow up to their Head Full of Magic, Shoes Full of Rain, with new tracks There’s A Ghost In Our House and The Baker’s Daughter joined by exclusive new song Nobody Knows Me Like You and a live version of Merry Hell’s popular ballad Rosanna’s Song.
Fans can also enjoy the group’s latest exploits in front of the camera with a video for There’s A Ghost In Our House, produced by fiddle player Neil McCarthy.
The video was largely filmed at The Old Court Buildings in Wigan town centre, where guitarist and record producer John has his studio, but also involved a trip to the North Wales coastline with singer Virginia taking a chilly dip in the Irish Sea.
Merry Hell manager Damian Liptrot said: “The EP starts with an up-tempo and atmospheric track which reminds us ghosts can come in many forms, while The Baker’s Daughter is a folk-rock anthem which has a chorus audiences have been joining in with almost as soon as they have heard it.
“The final two tracks are bonus tracks, Nobody Knows Me Like You is slower and gentler musically with a strongly reflective and insightful luric and then there’s a live version of a crowd favourite recorded at The Grand venue in Clitheroe. Rosanna’s Song is a beautiful ballad of friendship.”
The new EP will be distributed at gigs on Merry Hell’s busy autumn touring schedule, which sees the group performing from London to Yorkshire.
The band will play a number of acoustic dates across England and Wales during late November and December, including a secret pre-Christmas show on December 14.
