INSIDE View may have intended their new single to be a tribute to the iconic Big Apple, but the video is very much a homegrown affair.

Titled simply New York, the second single to be released from the indie band’s debut album Let Go tells the story of an unnamed character who is rather down on his luck and has to try and find his way back to his family in the city of the title.

Made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Anthony O’Brien, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Danny Heaton, bassist and backing vocalist Johnny Waring and drummer Sean Murphy, Inside View took to the streets of their hometown to produce the video for New York.

The crucial role of the lead character, who the band dubbed Mr Boxhead on set due to the rather strange costume he wears, being taken by their friend Joss Bradley.

The video was produced by Wigan film-maker Iain Cash, a former Wigan and Leigh College student who now runs his own production company, which also made the shooting something of a family affair for one particular member of the band. Guitarist Danny, 25, said: “Iain’s actually my cousin and it was really good working with him. The whole thing just flowed really well, and we had a good laugh on set too.

“We did get some strange looks while we were filming it because we all had these boxes on. We decided to do that because we wanted it to look quirkier than just having actors, we wanted to do something a bit surreal and a little bit cartoonish.”

Danny says the band particularly enjoy matching up visual elements to their music, and are already in discussion about producing another video for their next single.

He said: “It just gives something a little bit extra, and it’s good to put new things on the website to keep people interested.

“We’re still discussing it but we think the next single will be a song called Heaven and Hell.”

The video can be viewed on the band’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, or by visiting their official website www.insideviewmusic.com

New York and the band’s debut album Let Go are both available now from iTunes and CDbaby.
