THE revival of a Wigan entertainment venue is continuing a pace with the launch of a new comedy night.
The Maypole Community Club and Sports Bar, formerly known as Abram Labour Club, is the brainchild of Jon and Sarah Roche.
They are an Abram couple who took over the club last year with the aim of placing the venue back at the heart of the local community.
Now they have got together with comedy promoter Sam Brady to fill the place with laughter.
Jon said: “This is an exciting new project for our club.
“When we took over our intention was to get a comedy night going.
“Working alongside Sam and with the help of the public we would love this to be a regular event here.
“You can’t beat a good laugh with good people so we’re looking forward to seeing if we can get a great response to our first night.”
Jamie Sutherland (pictured) will headline a bill of four comedians at Abram Comedy Club on Saturday, April 14.
Liverpool-born Sutherland has been named one of the freshest, original acts to emerge in the last few years and is now well established on the comedy circuit all over the UK.
His is a modern act, with many observational topics and up-to-date material along old style gags which he has also put to use at gigs in Europe and Australia.
Maypole tickets are priced £5 and are available from the Maypole Community Club and Sports Bar on-line at www.abramcomedy.com or by calling 0845 680 1926.
