Architect's walk for charity

An architect from Wigan has walked the length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on foot to raise money for charity.
Bill Pye, who owns Pye Studios in Hindley, walked the 127-mile stretch of the historic waterway to raise money for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
The 58-year-old, of Tollgreen Close, Hindley, aims to raise £10 for every mile he walked – a total of £1,270 – and has already collected more than £500.
He will be donating all the money to hospice, a cause which inspired him to get through the whole walk despite some tough days.
Bill said: "I knew it was going to be hard work for me and it proved to be tough.
"I'm not an experienced long-distance walker and there were days when I was feeling sorry for myself trudging along.
"But I thought about the people in the hospice and what they were dealing with and it puts things in perspective.
"At least my sore feet will heal and there are a lot of people who would be happy to have just sore feet.
"The walk was something I have been wanting to do ever since I turned 50, just to remind myself I'm still alive I suppose.
"I am not sure what made me do it now.
"Perhaps I thought if I didn't do it soon I'd never get around to it."
He set off from Leeds on September 13 and arrived in Liverpool, blistered but unbowed, on September 20 after averaging around 16 miles per day.
There was a double celebration at the end of the walk as Bill celebrated turning 58.
