A young couple with a sick baby face being thrown out of their home.
Scott Adamson, 20, and Donna Sayers, 21, moved into a house, in Durham Street, Wigan, owned by Adactus Housing, three years ago.

The name on the lease was Donna's dad, Derek Sayers, 43, who occasionally stays there, but mainly works away and lives in a caravan.
But the couple are due to be evicted as Mr Sayers has not paid the rent and owes up to £2,500.

To make matters worse, the couple have a five-month-old daughter, Aaliyah, who suffers from gastrocisis, where her bowels were formed outside the body.

Every three months they have to take her to hospitals in Manchester and Wigan. Donna said: "He's not been paying his rent arrears and, because it has got so much, they have taken it to court.

"He is living with his girlfriend. It's out of my dad's hands, because it has gone to court. Whether he pays or not, we are still being evicted.

"I'm not happy about it, but at the end of the day, he is my dad. We don't speak now.
"Our housing officer told us to go down to county court to keep the house, but it's not in my name, so I can't do that."

Wigan Council's housing officers have been working with the couple and have told them they will be given accommodation.
But Donna is devastated about being made homeless at Christmas.
She said: "It's not Christmas if you are not in your own home. We will just have to keep strong for Aaliyah."

Donna said she would be more than happy to pay the arrears off in instalments, as the couple do not work, and are unable to pay the bill in full. But Adactus said the rent arrears need to be paid in full. If not, the family will be evicted as planned.

A spokesman for Adactus Housing Association said: "Evictions for rent arrears are always dealt with by the county court, and the tenant always has the opportunity for the court to consider their situation.
"In the case of 14 Durham Street neither of the two occupants holds the tenancy for property, nor are they able to pay the arrears.

"Therefore, we are unable to allow them to continue living in the property.
"We have already contacted the local authority to ensure that they are doing everything they can to find the occupants somewhere to live following the eviction."

No sympathy. Thye shouldn't be subletting. I'm sure the council will sort them out anyway....

I agree with the comments above. The nerve of them to have their picture in the press pleading for sympathy and the newspaper for painting this as a sob story. Two young people, neither of them working!!! Like PDC says I'm sure the council will step in, rehome them and the £2,500 will never be recovered. "It's not Christmas if you're not in your own home" but you're not in your own home Donna are you - it was rented to your dad and neither of you have paid the rent!

All of the above comments reflect my thoughts precisely. I have sympathy for that poor child being stuck in a situation like this. Get a job, then people may start to take you seriously.

No jobs, living rent free (and no doubt illegally claiming rent assistance), and due to be evicted! Well done both of you. You had it so easy you couldn't be bothered to ensure your own and more importantly, the security of your child. Don't bother with the sympathy card as Gastrosis relates to "Any disease of the stomach" and being non-discript could by name, be anything from Gastroenterits to a bellyache. Get real both of you...It's your fault.

a caring person,

i do have sympathy donna was brought up there from being a child and she does have a job but is on maternity leave as a carer in a care home and scott is with an agency does work when its available and looks every day for work . at least they have offered to pay the arrears but how many could pay that up front.and is paying council tax they dont want to live rent free. and as someone said NO they dont claim rent allowance.so i dont see how any one could say its there fault lets just hope none of your family find thereselves in a simaler situation will that be there fault and yes the baby was born with bowels growing outside of her body i suppose thats the babys fault too.

I'm sorry " A Caring Person" but it is entirely their fault they are being evicted.

Why on earth would they think living rent free for all this time was reasonable?

If she's on Maternity Leave, why is she not still getting paid? And what kind of work is he looking for? I could find him a job in 5 minutes. He should be taking ANY job - then he would have my sympathy.

That poor, poor little girl!
